After a long time time with no new projects in sight (not counting Doctor Who), it's been announced Mr Simm will be going back to the stage once again this Autumn, for a play titled Speaking in Tongues at the Duke of York's theatre in London. Completely worth the wait.

Life on Mars star John Simm, who was Whatsonstage.com and Olivier nominated for his West End debut in Elling two years ago, will return to the stage this autumn to star in the West End premiere of the 1996 emotional thriller Speaking in Tongues, written by Australian playwright Andrew Bovell, whose latest play When the Rain Stops Falling was just mounted at the Almeida Theatre.

Speaking in Tongues - which was made into the 2001 film Lantana starring Anthony LaPaglia, Geoffrey Rush and Barbara Hershey - will open at the Duke of York's Theatre on 28 September 2009 (previews from 18 September), co-starring Ian Hart and Kerry Fox and directed by Toby Frow.

'Doctor Who' policy

I just wanted to take a moment to clarify this site's position on Doctor Who news/rumours at the moment. Several online and offline sources have been reporting an upcoming second appearance of John Simm's Master in the series (yesterday's Daily Star, for example), and there's even a picture of the actor taken supposedly on-set.

However, that's as far as it goes, there's no official confirmation by BBC yet (although IMDB lists two new Doctor Who specials already in Mr Simm's page). So I'm going to hold listing it as a project for a little longer until more information surfaces.

Also, spoilers policy goes as follows. Since this site is dedicated to informing about and promoting John Simm's career, any news about an upcoming appearance in the series will be announced at the front page, regardless of it being casting spoilers. Plot details when posted, however, will be labelled as spoilers and hidden (with a text cut) and/or included in the project's page (when it's up).

Hope this makes sense! Thank you.

Promotion for Skellig hasn't provided many new (Simm-centred) interviews or articles, and most of them used bits and pieces from the Press Pack - so I won't be uploading those. However, there were a couple question & answer interviews last week:

2009 | My media: John Simm | The Guardian
2009 | A big ask: John Simm | Time Out

Hope all of you who already watched Skellig enjoyed it (I know I did - massively)! You can check out Locate TV for repeats of the programme on Sky.

Sky has just uploaded a bunch of new videos to the Skellig Official Website. You can watch a new trailer, plus some great interviews with Bill Milner, Tim Roth, John Simm, Kelly Macdonald, Annabel Jankel (director) and David Almond (writer), plus a Making of which combines bits and pieces from said interviews. Check all those over there (they've got loads of spoilers, just so you know).

Clip Syndicate has uploaded a couple of Skellig related videos. The first one is from the Skellig VIP Screening and includes brief interviews with Kelly Macdonald, Alexander Armstrong and John Simm. The second one asks the cast why they decided to do the film, and also includes Mr Simm briefly (hopefully we'll get more of these interviews on the DVD?). Both videos include clips from the movie.

ITN has uploaded a video from the Skellig VIP Screening to their website. There's no Simm in it, but you can see Bill Milner, Skye Bennett, Alexander Armstrong and David Almond being interviewed among others, plus a couple of brief scenes from the film. You can watch it here.

I re-uploaded the interview with John Simm from the Skellig Press Pack, since I was requested to hold on to it until the film's broadcast was closer. If you haven't seen it before, it's a very good read.

The British Academy Television Awards nominations have been announced and The Devil's Whore is up for Best Drama Serial - good luck! You can see the rest of nominations here. Unfortunately, the cast has been overlooked once more (although Andrea Riseborough and Maxine Peake are nominated for The Long Way to Finchley and Hancock and Joan respectively).

The awards will be given out on Sunday 26th April. (thanks to L for the heads-up!)

John Simm to be on 'Doctor Who' again?

UK tabloid The Sun is claiming John Simm will be reprising his role as the Master in the final Doctor Who special of 2009, the last one featuring David Tennant as the Doctor.

Billie [Piper], 26, will again play Rose Tyler and teams up with other sidekicks Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman). The trio will join forces to take on the Doctor's revived arch-enemy The Master, played again by John Simm.

Of course we all know The Sun, so take this with a pinch of salt. I had previously refused to report any speculation about Mr Simm replacing Tennant as the Doctor because it was completely ridiculous, but since this is at least plausible I thought I'd pass on the "news".
