John Parlour (John Simm) is a merciless local loans agent who works around poverty-struck neighbourhoods. One of his clients is single mother of two Jo Weller (Sophie Okonedo) who finds herself so up to her neck with debt, not even John can help her anymore.
One day John gets violently attacked and suddenly finds himself out of a job and living in the same neighbourhood he used to work at. After recovering from his injuries he puts his mind in a new job, helping the people he used to trick in a credit union. And falls in love with Jo unaware that she's hiding something from him.
